Ferry Rescue Exercise (FEREX)
Ferry Rescue Exercise (FEREX)
FEREX 2024 will simulate the collision of two domestic ferries - one electric and one diesel-powered - plying between Marina South Pier and Southern Islands. The collision results in severe damage to the hull of the diesel-powered ferry, causing the vessel to take in water. Several passengers also require immediate evacuation after sustaining severe injuries from the collision. Meanwhile, the electric ferry experiences a thermal runaway and catches fire. MPA and the relevant agencies, together with private operators, will respond upon activation of the Ferry Mishap Contingency Plan.
FEREX will be held on 22 Aug 2024 (Thursday), 9.00am – 12.00pm. MPA, as the Crisis Manager, will lead and coordinate WoG efforts to deal with the ferry mishap. During the exercise, technology and systems will also be leveraged to enhance both MPA’s and WoG’s situational awareness, to ensure timely and coordinated emergency responses.
NOTE: This is a closed-door event.
